Garage Sale

Posted in Reflections on Life in General at 11:15 am by Administrator

Today I am parked in my garage, trying valiantly to sell all my junk–er, lovely used items–to unsuspecting, I mean, willing purchasers. :)

This is the first of 3 days. I’m doing okay so far…not bad for a start.

And I have a faithful companion to keep me company.

I hope by Saturday all my junk–er, priceless treasures—will be gone into other, loving homes.

I’ve done it again…

I have once again signed up for NaNoWriMo. This is the National Novel Writing Month competition in which you are challenged to write a 50,000 word novel, or the beginnings of a longer novel as long as it’s 50k words, in 30 days. I did it two years ago. Last year, I failed…only reaching about the halfway mark before life got in the way.

What makes this especially challenging is that this contest (really you are only competing against the clock and there is no tangible reward) occurs during November when you are gearing up for Thanksgiving and Christmas. That makes the challenge all the greater.

I will post a word counter once it all gets started so you can follow my progress. And of course encourage me with lots of comments on my posts along the way.

And if you have any really great, unique, fun or even mediocre plot ideas or suggestions, please feel free to send them my way!

It’s that time of year…

…when I decide to change the look of my website. I am generally unsatisfied for a while, so the look and feel of the site may be different every time it is visited.

Who knows what you will find the next time you venture to my site!

Loose Teeth

Posted in Reflections on Life in General at 7:47 am by Administrator

Last night, TJ embarked on a personal mission: to remove two slightly loose teeth in his mouth. And, I am happy to report, he succeeded.

I am happy to report this because he did it all by himself and did not require my help. You see, I get the heebiest of jeebies, as Peggy Hill (of TV’s “King of the Hill” fame) once said, just looking at a bloody tooth, let alone touching or trying to remove it. Shiver!

Anyway, he pulled them out and was happy to leave them for the tooth fairy, who in return left him money, but forgot to take his teeth.

Maybe her dog had to be rushed to the vet yesterday or something and she was still recovering from that!

Astro…again

Posted in Reflections on Life in General at 7:35 am by Administrator

I think I might be old and gray by the time Astro completely recovers from his recent ordeal.

Yesterday afternoon, Astro, who had been lying on the floor, jumped up and started acting weird. I looked at him and literally freaked out. His left eye was sunken, rolling up into his head, his right eye was going in the opposite direction, his back was hunched up, he was staggering and disoriented and drooling like mad. I grabbed the phone and called the vet, fairly screaming into the receiver “I’m coming in right now!”

By the time I had hung up and started rounding the kids up (who, incidentally, had taken my cue and were now freaking out as well), Astro seemed to have recovered. His eyes were back to normal, he had stopped drooling and he was able to walk on his own to the car.

When we got to the vet, the doors opened and people rushed to help us. You know, you spend a ton of money some place and suddenly you become important. Anyway, Astro was shaking insanely and not very happy to be back at the site of so much doom in his life. The vet listened to his heart and took his pulse and declared all was still very well and normal in that area. After checking him out, the vet determined Astro must have had a minor “embolistic” event which means he probably had a blood clot somewhere which dislodged and went to his brain or lungs.

Fortunately, an embolism is not as lethal in dogs as it can be in humans. So once the thing had moved out of the area, he was fine. Sort of like a brain freeze after drinking something cold too fast. At least, that’s how I looked at it. By the time we left the vet, he was back to himself and was happy to go home. Now Astro is on 1 aspirin a day to try to thin out any remaining blood clots hiding in his system somewhere.

When I got home, I just wilted. The intensity of that moment, the high stress concentrated into one hour, almost did me in. In spite of that, we’re all here and doing well.

At least for today!
