Dogs are our link to paradise. They do not know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring–it was peace. –Milan Kundera

Last night, Tracy went outside to throw the football with TJ. As soon as he took one step outside, he urgently hollered my name. I went running outside. What I saw took my breath away.

Now that is true beauty. In the eye of any beholder!

I got a spam comment on an old post and this is what the spammer wrote:

A child of five could understand this. Fetch me a child of five — Groucho Marx

I thought it was hilarious and had to add it. I guess sometimes even spam can be entertaining.

Boy Meets Girl October 21, 2007

We brought Scooby home tonight and introduced her to our cat, Puff. Puff was singularly unimpressed with this new force in his life, and after a few introductory swipes at Scooby’s nose, Puff has decided this creature is not necessarily worth troubling himself over.

The two will be best pals in no time, I am certain. In the meantime, I will just endure Puff’s looks of disdain.

She’s finally an official member of our family.

We left Indy on Wednesday and drove down to Atlanta, where we picked her up on Thursday morning. She is so sweet! She is calm, adorable, soft as can be, and best of all…a total cuddle bunny! She took to Tracy instantly (which was NOT how I envisioned the relationship beginning), and has spent most of the last two days fighting and playing with my brother’s dog, Cinnamon. Those two have worn each other out!

I love visiting my brother and his family in Valdosta. My nephew, Ryan, is a senior in High School this year. I can hardly believe he is already so grown up. He’s such an outstanding young man and I am extremely proud of him.

Ryan and my niece, Becca, who is a sophomore, both perform with the marching band. It was the last chance for me to see Ryan in his high school marching band career. Their band is awesome, boasting some 400+ members. They hold the honor of marching in the Rose Bowl Parade, President Bush’s 2nd Inauguration Parade, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Chicago Thanksgiving Day parade and in 2008, they will march at the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C. What great experiences for these high schoolers. They have won many awards and if you see them perform, you will understand why.

I love my family. And my new puppy dog.

Sunny Skies and the Blues October 13, 2007

It’s been a rough week. Long, painful, heart-wrenching and exhausting. Last night I felt like Holly Go-Lightly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I’m not quite sure I had the “mean reds” but I certainly had the blues. I retreated into the cave that is my basement and sunk into mindless TV land. I thought, “I should blog, but my blogs have been so depressing lately, I’m sure no one wants to read them anymore.”

Would it ever change?

Today is better. I’m still in physical pain, but my heart hurts less each day. And the weather was beautiful today. Perfect for my first outing post-surgery. I watched my daughter play in a soccer tourney (her team lost in round 1…I was really ok with that). I sat outside. I ate ice cream.

The blues today were more from the sky than from my heart. It was a good feeling to feel happy again.
