Freedom of Choice Act

Posted in Reflections on Life in General at 9:24 am by Lynette

This morning, I started doing a bit more research on this legislation. The more I read, the more horrified I became.

Up until this point, I have been hopeful that President-Elect Obama would be reasonable and not barge into the Oval Office with the sole intent of turning the United States into something it’s not. Then I saw the video of him speaking at a Planned Parenthood rally during his campaign. He made comments like “culture wars are so 90s” and “We want a new day in America. We’re tired of fighting about the same ole stuff” and “there will always be people who do not share my views on the issue of choice…and on this fundamental issue I will not yield…” By the time the video was finished, I was outraged.

This is why I did not vote for Mr. Obama. This is why I will do all in my limited power to fight and oppose him when he starts pushing legislation as extreme and as far-left as the Freedom of Choice Act.

Some highlights of what the FOCA would do, if passed:

This would eradicate state and federal laws that the majority of Americans support, such as:

  • Bans on Partial Birth Abortion
  • Requirements that women be given information about the risks of getting an abortion
  • Only licensed physicians can perform abortions
  • Parents must be informed and give consent to their minor daughter’s abortion

FOCA would erase these laws and prevent states from enacting similar protective measures in the future.

If passed, FOCA would force all hospitals and doctors to provide abortions, at threat of losing their medical licenses of they refuse! Is this the type of culture that we want? Is this not a war worth fighting? When has fighting a culture war regarding the sanctity of human life ever been passe and out of style? And is this the kind of new day I want for my children in this great country?

I am incensed that President-Elect Obama thinks forcing people who disagree with him to do his will, is giving people a choice. I don’t get it. Webster’s Revised Unabridged Dictionary defines choice as follows (emphasis mine):

1. Act of choosing; the voluntary act of selecting or separating from two or more things that which is preferred; the determination of the mind in preferring one thing to another; election.

As an adoptive mother and as a woman, please tell me, President-Elect Obama, how is forcing me to abide by your way of thinking fighting for my “voluntary act of selecting” a choice which may or may not line up with yours?

I’d love to hear your answer, sir.

In the meantime, go to the Fight FOCA website. Read through their literature, and then if you so voluntarily choose, sign the petition against this horrible proposed law.

Dr. Puff and Mr. Hyde

Inside the house, he’s sweet, furry, and cute:

But let him outside, and he begins implementing his “CEP,” or, “Chipmunk Eradication Program. As he rips the poor creature to shreds, and then proudly leaves its disemboweled carcass at my door step, I scream, “WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY SWEET KITTY CAT?”

Then I remind myself, he is only living true to his natural instincts.

Just be glad I didn’t include a picture of the rodent remnants on here. One person scarred for life is quite enough.

Life with Ridgebacks

Posted in Reflections on Life in General at 12:00 pm by Lynette

It usually involves lots of sun, soft padded resting areas (generally a couch or bed), counter surfing, greetings that involve walking between a human’s legs (the height of the human matters not, nor does their choice of attire, i.e. a skirt), goofy behaviors, goofier looks, flipped ears, and more affection than one could ever hope for.

Trash-A-Rama

Posted in Reflections on Life in General at 11:16 am by Lynette

I have been wallowing in trash bags. Like a crazy, doped up fool, I volunteered to run my kids’ school fundraiser this year. We sold trash bags.

Yep. That’s right. Trash Bags. In fact, these trash bags.

For three days straight I have been sitting at a table waiting for people to come by and pick up their orders. I am heartily sick of white, yellow and blue.

Need any trash bags? Call me. I can hook you up in a jiffy.

In the mean time, I might just suffocate from all the plastic. At least the blue one is big enough to bury an average size adult in.
