Yesterday, my daughter ran her first official cross country event. She ran a 1 mile course which she finished in un-record time. She could have finished in the top 15, I am sure of it, if only for one thing: her friend.

Her friend was not feeling well and not in the mood to use all of her strength. Molly, being the phenomenal friend that she is, chose to hold back and stay with her friend instead of running for herself.

I was so proud of her for being a good friend, but I also tried to tell her that sometimes, it’s okay to think of yourself, especially in cross country. It was a good learning experience and she had a great time.
